  Software Upgrade - version 9.4

Version 9.4 of the SecureNet Data Storage remote backup software is now available!
Details of the enhancements are listed at the bottom of this page.

Upgrade Instructions:

- First save a copy of your current encryption key and password, just to be on the safe side. (Select Options > Encryption Key).

- Close the Remote Backup program; right-click on the red and black icon in the system tray on the lower-right and select close.

Save this file:

to your drive and then double-click on it to begin.

- The new Open Files Agent is not yet compatible with some versions of Windows, and it will inform you if it will not be installed on your computer. The rest of the upgrade will still be installed.

- After the install has completed, you may need to restart your computer before using the software. You may be prompted to save your encryption key and start the program from the system tray. You may close these prompt windows.

- Then choose Run > Test Connection to make sure everything is working correctly.

Version 9.40 Enhancements

Open Files Agent now has the most advanced Open Files support available in any solution. The Open Files Agent, now included at no charge in the Client software, allows Remote Backup to back up all open and locked files - even operating system files, Outlook PST files, Quickbooks, Lotus Notes, and all other file types, even if they are locked. It works with all 32 bit Windows operating systems, Windows 2000 and greater. The OFA does not require any other software or service*. The OFA does not require Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS).

Microsoft Exchange - Version 9.4 continues to allow you to back up Exchange Server granularly, while Exchange is running. You can also now exclude specific Exchange user account folders (e.g. Junk Mail, Deleted Items, etc.) from selected mailboxes, and back up only new messages in selected folders after the initial backup is complete - thereby shortening backup sessions and insuring that you backup only the most critical data. Restores are at the mail-folder level, per user.

SQL Server - Now backs up and restores multiple instances of SQL Server databases while they are in use on a single machine, one per backup job, so there's no need to shut down the SQL Server.

Pause button added to the progress dialog that displays during a backup. Pressing the Pause button pauses the process and changes the button to "Resume."

Added a new feature - Rename Backup Set.

File Selection criteria - ‘Archive Bit’ Vs ‘Last Modified date/time’: Incremental or Differential or BitBackups used to rely on the archive-bit setting of each file to determine whether the file has been modified or not. This setting can now be switched to rely on ‘Last Modified date/time’ instead, and is configurable per-backup set.

Windows Task Scheduler Jobs -The scheduler interface now includes options to set up scheduled jobs to run via the Windows Task Scheduler instead of the internal scheduler. Advanced options for Windows Task Scheduled jobs include Power Management Options: 1) Don't start the task when running on batteries 2) Stop the task if battery mode begins, and 3) Wake computer to run backups.

Made changes to increase the scan speed.

64-bit OS compatibility - Remote Backup 9.4 supports 64-bit Windows Operating Systems.

* In version 9.4, Open Files Support is available on all Windows versions except versions older than Windows 2000, Vista, 64-bit systems, and Domain Controllers. Some features may operate differently on Vista.

Previous Change History - Version 9.20 Enhancements

Microsoft Exchange backup - Backs up and restores Exchange Server granularly at the folder level, while Exchange is running. There's no need to shut down the Exchange server for either backups or restores. This is a standard feature at no additional charge.

SQL Server backup - Backs up and restores SQL Server databases while they are in use, so there's no need to shut down the SQL Server. This is a standard feature at no additional charge.

BitBackup substantially reduces the amount of time it takes to back up files, and saves storage space on the server. It backs up only the parts of files that have changed since the previous backup. BitBackup can now operate in Differential Mode.

Faster - This release prepares files for backup from 2x to 16x faster, depending on file types. It adds a much faster local file copy function that significantly speeds up the BitBackup process by speeding up the process it uses to update its local data store. It also loads files faster when flagged during Restore.

Delete Files From Server Option - This Option enables you to manually delete files from the server that you think are unnecessary.

New Exception Reporter - Exceptions encountered during a backup are now reported through the system tray application. When an exception is encountered, the system tray icon blinks with a yellow exclamation mark, reporting an error. You can right click on the tray icon, and select the option ‘Backup Exceptions’ which opens the Backup Exceptions Form. You can view the exceptions encountered for all backup sets (or individually for each backup set) and view the details of exception, error code, time of occurrence, and solution. After viewing exceptions, you can choose to either clear them by adding a check mark and clicking on Finish, or you can uncheck them to view again later. Exceptions include Missed Backups, Failed Backups, and Backup Exceptions.

Delete Backup Set - When deleting a backup set, you can now optionally delete the backed up files for that set from the SecureNet server.
